covering up good stuff

It's tough. I'll admit it.

Covering up the good stuff on any art piece is hard sometimes, but it is all part of the layering process. We might think we are covering up our favorite part of the layout, only to realize further into the process that we built up on those layers in such a way as to help bring forth even more artsy juiciness.

Art Challenge:  Cover Up Good Stuff
Journal Prompt:  Going Undercover

I always THINK I am starting out with a layout I will love. After all, why would I create it only to cover it up? But then the process progresses and I am usually happy with the way the journal page plays out. I don't mind that I covered up what I thought was going to be a key element on  my page. This is how this week's art journal page unfolded.

Don't let the fear of covering up the good stuff stop you from layering up on your art journal pages. It is a scary step to take but it helps us stretch and grow as artists. Sure we will have times that we will regret painting over the top of something wonderful (like that green up there that covered my pretty yellow triangles ) but that is part of working it out on paper. Next time I know - no green for me. Going undercover to discover what you love and don't love in your art process is a great way to fine tune your own unique style.
