The Blank Page and How to Face It!
Art Challenge: Writing
Journal Prompt: Words with Friends
Writing on a journal page is nothing new for me. I like to add notes and reminders to myself in most of my art. It isn't always legible, or meant to be, but it is important to me to get the words down on the page. It is funny how I can leaf through and old journal and just by what I created, know what the words say.
I started this layout with a simple series of painted circles using some of favorite hand cut stencils. Next I sketched out a crude and simple design, moving quickly and not giving it too much thought. I filled in all the areas with assorted paints and paint pens, added more marks and scribbles with pan pastels and permanent metallic chalk markers.
I love the painterly feel of it. I created some cool areas of color by double dipping my brush into two different colors of paint before applying it to the page.
For the prompt this week, I chose to express what words with friends would sound like for me. The scribbled writing on my page speaks about what a conversation between a friend and I would consist of...not the actual words we could say to one another, but more of how we could express ourselves to one another. I love the color and craziness of this page. It is wild but it makes me happy.
